BEIJING, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Classic drama "Don Juan" performed by Russia's renowned Komissarzhevskaya Theatre will be staged at China's National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) on July 19 and 20.
The legend of Don Juan originated in Spain and later was introduced to France. French playwright Moliere's Don Juan premiered at the Royal Court in Paris in 1665, presenting a colorful storyline and sharp dramatic conflict in five acts.
In the play, Moliere revealed the hope and courage in the heart of the declining French aristocrats of the 17th century. It shows Don Juan's rebellious spirit, which contains a yearning for freedom and disbelief in supernatural beings, behind his dissolute love lifestyle as a playboy.
The Komissarzhevskaya Theatre was founded in Leningrad in 1942 and was renamed after the great Russian actress Komissarzhevskaya in 1959. With an all-embracing repertoire, the theatre has won numerous awards at home and abroad. Enditem
