BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese-language film version of "The Dawns Here Are Quiet," produced by China's National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA), will be shown at the center on Aug. 3, opening the 2019 NCPA International Opera Film Exhibition.
Based on renowned Russian writer Boris Vasilyev's novel of the same title, the production is adapted from a namesake opera.
Directed by Teng Junjie, it is the first time to see that artists from the Mariinsky Symphony Orchestra and the Western Military District Ensemble perform together with Chinese singers of the NCPA in the production.
It tells the story of five female soldiers guarding the important railway facilities led by a senior sergeant in the Soviet Red Army, who courageously fought off invading German troops in 1942.
The opera version was first staged at the NCPA in Nov. 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of the victory of World War II.
