SARAJEVO, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH's) handball team was warmly welcomed at Sarajevo International Airport (SIA) on Monday after they placed at the European Handball Championship for the first time in the country's history.
BiH handball team celebrated 24-23 over the hosts Czech Republic on Sunday in Ostrava.
During the welcoming ceremony, selector of national handball team Bilal Suman said he is very satisfied after the historic success, and that the team celebrated twice while visiting and lost twice while being hosts.
"We need to make a breakthrough and set more goals. Our goal at the European Championship will be placement in the second round of competitions," Suman said, adding that the main goal is to finish among the first two selections in the group.
He added that the upcoming match is scheduled for Dec. this year, when preparations for the European Championship will begin.
The captain of the country's handball team Mirsad Terzic said there were difficult moments during qualifiers, but that the team managed to reduce the technical mistakes during play.
The 2020 European Men's Handball Championship will take place in January 2020 and be co-hosted for the first time by three countries: Austria, Norway and Sweden.
