BEIJING, March 2 (Xinhua) -- A daily average of 180,000 police officers were deployed across China for patrols and road checks to ensure road traffic safety during the Spring Festival travel rush, which lasted 40 days and ended on March 1, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
As a result, a total of 206,000 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol and drunk driving were spotted and investigated in the period.
Police officers during the road checks spotted around 797,000 cases of overloaded vehicles, speeding and fatigued driving.
According to the ministry, seven traffic police officers and auxiliary police officers died while on active duty while ensuring holiday travel rush safety.
