NAIROBI, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese professional golfer Wu Ashun will compete at this year's Kenya Open Golf Tournament scheduled for mid-March in Nairobi, organizers announced on Monday.
Patrick Obath, tournament director, said that the 34-year-old golfer, who has won the European tour three times, will be one of the star attractions at Kenya's premier golf event.
"Wu will compete alongside other players from across the globe for top honors at the competition that has since been elevated to a European Tour event," Obath said during the launch of the championship in Nairobi.
In recent years, Europe witnessed an increasing number of tours held outside Europe.
Since 2016, Wu has played primarily on the European tour during which he won the Lyoness Open in the same year and had a third European Tour win in 2018 to add to his five professional wins so far.
Obath said that the entries will close in the middle of February so it was still not possible to determine the number of players.
The director said that Kenya will field 12 professionals and six elite amateurs during the challenge.
Peter Kanyago, chairman of the Kenya Open Golf Limited, said the four-day event will be broadcast live around the world and will be beamed to over 490 million household across the globe.
