ARUSHA, Tanzania, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Five people, including four officials of Tanzania's Ministry of Agriculture, died on Sunday in the country's central district of Manyoni, police confirmed.
Sweetbert Njewite, Singida Regional Police Commander, said in a telephone interview that the accident occurred around 11 a. m. local time when an SUV vehicle the officials traveling with veered off the road.
The fifth person who died was the driver, who was behind the wheels of the ill-fated vehicle, the regional police chief said.
"We are still investigating the cause of the accident, but I can confirm that the vehicle belongs to the Ministry of Agriculture and its five occupants have been confirmed dead," Njewite said.
The Sunday crash was one of a series of road accidents involving Tanzanian government vehicles and officials in this year.
In May, three officials of the Tanzania Investment Center were killed in a road accident in Coast Region on their way to the country's Capital Dodoma for a national conference.
In August, the country's Natural Resources and Tourism Minister Hamisi Kigwangalla was involved in a road accident at Magugu Village in Manyara Region during a nationwide working tour.
