SOFIA, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian customs at the country's Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint near the border with Turkey have seized 3.816 million smuggled Ukrainian excise stamps for alcohol, officials said here on Thursday.
The smuggled excise stamps, split into 318 cardboard boxes, were found on Tuesday during a detailed customs inspection of a truck with Turkish registration traveling from Turkey to Ukraine, the National Customs Agency said in a statement.
The driver of the vehicle, a Turkish citizen, declared that he was carrying only dried apricots, the agency said. The vehicle and the excise stamps were confiscated.
The investigation is ongoing, it added.
