MAZAR-E-SHARIF, Afghanistan Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- At least three local police officers were killed and three others injured after Taliban militants attacked a security checkpoint in Balkh province, north of Afghanistan, a local official said Thursday.
"A group of Taliban militants attacked a security checkpoint in Chamtal district of Balkh province, on Wednesday night, killing three local police personnel on the spot and injuring three others," Munir Farhard, spokesman for the provincial governor, told Xinhua.
The militants fled away after the deadly attack, the spokesman said, adding that police have launched operations to capture and bring to justice all those behind the offensive.
Taliban militants have not commented on the attack.
