CAIRO, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed on Tuesday that his country will continue to make an effort to prevent deterioration of the situation in Syria, official MENA News Agency reported.
"Egypt will also go on in maintaining the rights of the Syrian people and their interests based on the firm stances of preserving the unity of the Syrian territories," the president told the visiting United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.
The president highlighted the importance of mobilizing efforts of the international community to draft a permanent and comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis that has torn the country since 2011.
Sisi noted that Egypt was ready to intensify its contacts with other parties to reach a permanent political solution to the long-standing conflict based on common concepts.
Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said the UN envoy asserted the importance of the Egyptian role in the Middle East region as a main pillar of stability in the region.
