KIEV, March 30 (Xinhua) -- The 4th Generation (4G) mobile service has been officially launched in major cities across Ukraine, the country's President Petro Poroshenko announced on Friday.
"Mobile carriers have launched 4G mobile services in more than 20 cities," Poroshenko wrote on Facebook.
The Lifecell telecom provider said on its website it is now offering 4G service in 24 cities, while the Vodafone-Ukraine operator said it has launched the service in five cities.
Kyivstar, another Ukrainian telecom operator, said it plans to launch the 4G service by April 10.
Kyivstar, Vodafone-Ukraine and Lifecell won the rights to provide the 4G services at two separate auctions on Jan. 31 and March 6 this year.
In the next four years, all cities in Ukraine are set to gain access to 4G services.
