KHARTOUM, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The Sudanese government decided on Monday to open to investment in uranium, said Sudanese Minister for Trade Hatim al-Sir.
Al-Sir said he met with President Omar al-Bashir and "discussed opening the door to investment in uranium after consultations with security authorities."
He added that the meeting also agreed amendment to the laws of commerce, foreign currency and especially minerals code, which prohibits the smuggling, storage and exportation of precious metals below norm or indicative prices to international markets.
In July 2015, Sudan Geological Researches Corporation said that Russian companies would be granted priority to explore and extract radioactive uranium in Sudan considering its advanced technologies.
It noted at the time that Sudan has potentials for uranium mining, as a huge amount of the mineral was discovered in different regions of Sudan.
